Benefits
- Asus is known for its cutting edge “Nanoedge” design that with thin bezels to maximize the screen size while keeping your overall laptop dimensions small.
- It’s a pretty good gaming laptop that could also do some photo/video editing considering its cheap price. This price was possible through AMD’s breakthrough with their new line of processors, the Ryzen line-up. The performance of the Ryzen family is on par with its Intel counterparts while costing less. I’d say it’s a pretty good move from ASUS to welcome AMD to their build.
- It weighs reasonably light for a gaming laptop. We all wanted to buy gaming laptops as alternatives to building our own pc to take advantage of its portability so it definitely makes sense for it to be as portable as possible.
Downsides
You would be able to game with it (obviously) however its capabilities are quite limited out of the box as it only comes with a 4gb ram which doesn’t suffice even for a regular business laptop all the more for a gaming laptop. I’d probably look to buy more ram to get at least 16gb to get the maximum performance out of it. If you have some more cash to spare, you could also throw in an SSD for faster boot times and load times for your games.
- Although it packs a 120hz refresh rate, you wouldn’t be able to take advantage of that unless you upgrade your ram as the bottleneck is holding you back to at least 60 FPS tested with the popular title from Epic games “Fortnite”.
- It has a poor battery life which is expected for a powerful gaming device but would mean that you would have to plug it in to use it for longer periods of gaming.
Verdict
- I’d say this is a really good budget gaming laptop for its price especially their choice of using AMD instead of Intel which is pretty overrated at the moment. The only letdown for me is the RAM that comes with the package. They could’ve at least packed it with an 8gb to get average performance out of the box without needing to upgrade too soon considering you just bought the laptop and even chose a fairly cheaper one. The extra cost for the 120hz refresh rate display would be rendered useless if you can’t even reach a fairly high FPS but I guess they designed it
to be a good upgrade path considering the ram is expandable. Overall, I would definitely consider this one of the best budget gaming laptops out there.
