Benefits

  • This laptop uses the new hexacore i7-9750H processor and has a base clock of 2.6GHz but is evaluated to turbo support to 4.5GHz under burden on a single core. The i7-8750H it replaces was evaluated at 2.2GHz but with turbo support to 4.1GHz under load. During testing, I saw the greatest all core support clock speed from the i7-9750H in the Razer Blade Pro 17 of around 4.29 GHz.
  • The 16GB of memory is DDR4 and runs at a speed of 2667MHz. The GPU-Z screenshots show both the Intel incorporated graphics and the devoted Nvidia RTX 2070 Max Q. The RTX 2070 Max-Q features 8GB of GDDR5 memory and have a default clock of 1080MHz and a rated boost clock of 1305MHz. However, during testing I noticed the boost clock crested at 1890MHz and managed to keep up close to this impressive boost clock most of the time.

Downside

  • The Blade Pro 2017 was extremely heavy at about 3.6 kg. The thinner bezels and significantly smaller elements of the new Blade Pro 17 have shaved off 800 grams (!) from the last weight to be more by other ultra-slim 17.3-inch gaming laptops including the Lenovo Legion Y740 and Asus ROG GL704GW. It’s still around 500 g heavier than the MSI GS75, however, since Razer uses a stiffer skeleton with vapor chamber cooling.

Verdict

The Razer Blade Pro 17 is a phenomenal laptop in terms of design, boasting the same sleek angular look like not only the remainder of the Blade assortment but the Razer Phone too. The 17.3in display isn’t the brightest we’ve ever seen, but the 144Hz invigorate rate upgrades the gameplay experience and the slim bezels mean the laptop chassis is like a standard 15in laptop.
